LOUISVILLE (August 19, 2020) - Falls City Brewing Co. is pleased to announce the completion of a multi-million dollar brewery expansion at 901 E. Liberty St. in downtown Louisville, KY. The project was completed in June of this year. The expansion adds a second, larger High Efficiency 20bbl brewhouse with 60bbl tanks that will allow for further innovation while tripling full-scale brewing capacity. This upgrade also includes a state-of-the-art canning line and increased cold storage. In addition, the new system is faster and uses 40% less water and 20% less grain during a brew cycle.
Falls City completed the initial phase of its move and expansion on Liberty St. in March of 2018 with the opening of its taproom at 901 E. Liberty St. and “small batch” 7-barrel brewing system, which has been in use since the company was re-introduced in 2010. The completion of the current expansion will allow Falls City to brew and package all of its products under one roof.
“This expansion is something we’ve been planning for a long time. It finally gives us an opportunity to not only grow our production, but also continue to be innovative with new products and packaging options.” Says Drew Johnson Falls City Beer Director of Operations.
In addition to the increase in brewing capacity, the expansion also created 3 more jobs.
The roughly 35,000 sq. ft. complex on Liberty St. that houses Falls City is also home to Bandido Taqueria, ’78 Coffee Co., Katie Marie Photographie and more recently Old 502 Winery, which moved its wine production to Liberty Street in the Fall of 2019, and looks to open a new tasting room within the next year at this location.
“With this investment, we are committing to the growth of Kentucky beer, our local community and to the legacy of this brand. Without the support of our customers and the resiliency of our team, this wouldn’t have been possible.” Says Falls City President Shane Uttich. “It’s been an exciting journey and we look forward to the future.”
